Cantonment

Cantonment is the unincorporated community in northern Escambia County, ten miles north of Pensacola along Highway 29. Population sits near 30,000 across the broader census-designated place. The community grew up around the International Paper mill (formerly Champion International), which has employed Cantonment families for more than four generations and remains one of the largest private employers in Escambia County.

Tate High School anchors the community. Tate's football and baseball programs are among the most decorated in the panhandle and keep generations of families inside the school zone. The Friday-night ritual at the Tate stadium pulls in alumni from across the region. The community feeds students into Tate, Ransom Middle, and the Ferry Pass Elementary cluster, with the older Roberts Elementary serving the western half.

Cantonment trades on space. Lots run a half-acre and up, with workshops, RV pads, and detached garages common. Hunting camps and timber tracts ring the community on the north and east. Bratt and Molino are just up Highway 29. I-10 access at Exit 22 puts downtown Pensacola twenty minutes away. The Escambia River frontage to the east attracts boaters and weekend fishermen. New construction has filled in the Quintette Road and Pensacola Boulevard corridors with brick homes on bigger lots than anywhere south of I-10.
